He continued his education receiving two Masters of Arts degrees in 2008 and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2011. He has been consistently recognized as a leader in his community and state.

Born in 1985 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, the recipient attended BJU as a third generation legacy student from 2002 to 2006.

While on the BJU Intercollegiate Debate Team, he and his partner won the 2005 National Championship, where he received the first place overall speaker award.

Also while a student he co-founded, an online sacred music download service that eventually was sold to SoundForth. Following graduation he also started AbidingRadio, one of the top 5 Christian internet radio stations.

During graduate school he purchased a struggling AM radio station airing a liberal talk format and converted it to the Quad Cities’ newest Christian radio station.

In 2010 he was appointed a Blackstone Legal Fellow by Alliance Defending Freedom.

In September 2011, as an officer of the Federalist Society at UW-Madison, he moderated the largest debate of the Federalist Society in the nation that year, which was featured on Fox News Channel.

In December 2011 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Law where he served as President of the Christian Legal Society chapter.

In 2014, following his work on numerous local and statewide campaigns and conservative causes, he was asked by state officials to run for Wisconsin State Treasurer, where he came in second in the Republican Primary with approximately 40% of the vote.

He has been actively fighting for religious liberty in Wisconsin, leading successful efforts to pass additional protections for homeschools, Christian day schools, and Bible colleges, and also elected President of the Civil Rights Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Following law school, he started the Academy of Excellence, an inner city Christian K-12 day school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that is now the largest evangelical school in the state. Opening with 80 students, over the last five years it has grown to more than 100 staff and over 800 students on three campuses. All of the students attend tuition free, thanks to Wisconsin’s school choice program.

He is an active member and substitute Sunday School teacher at Brookside Baptist Church, and serves on the boards of the Wisconsin Association of Christian Schools, the Waukesha County Taxpayer Association, Wisconsin Family Council, VCY America (a midwestern Christian radio network), and the Bob Jones University Education Group.

In recognition of outstanding accomplishments, Christian leadership, devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and his people, and loyalty to the principles of Bob Jones University, the Alumni Association is pleased to present the 2017 Alumnus of the Year Award to Dr. Randy Melchert.
