Recent Graduate's Success in the Accounting Industry

Nate Hudson's Story

The stories and successes of the graduates of Bob Jones University are something to be celebrated and shared with other alumni. We recently spoke with Nate Hudson, a BJU graduate of the class of 2017, about his background and industry success post-graduation. If you are interested in how BJU has better equipped him for the industry he is in, read what Nate had to say:

“My name is Na21768598_511608792521846_1566115788593052438_o.jpgte Hudson, and I recently graduated from BJU with a bachelor’s in accounting. I grew up in Vienna, Austria in a missionary family and was homeschooled all 12 grades. It was quite the culture shock moving from Europe to the “overly-friendly” South. I came to BJU because of recommendations from friends and family. In addition to the strong accounting program BJU offers and Christian worldview, I already had grandparents living in Greenville, which also contributed to my decision.

Probably the biggest concept I learned throughout college was to dream big and work hard to accomplish that dream. College changed my perspective of success and goals from simply dreams to very obtainable realities. It definitely encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and attempt things I never would have seen myself achieving several years ago.

The BJU Accounting program not only develops students through rigorous academic training, but professors work closely with students to reach out to our large alumni network to place students in relevant and desirable internships and jobs. In all of my interviews and recruiting experiences, I always felt just as prepared — if not more prepared than the other candidates from other universities throughout the US.

Currently, I am an auditor in public accounting. I would encourage students looking to work in this industry to expand their professional networks and to reach out to other graduates who are currently in jobs they think might be interesting to pursue. Professionals remember what it was like to be interviewing for jobs, and most people will take the time to do coffee with you or answer any questions you may have about the recruiting process or the industry in general. Take advantage of their help and experience!”
